There is a very laughable story told about a missionary student who was actively seeking what God wanted him to do with his life after training and study were finished.
He was particularly keen to discover the exact sphere of overseas service God wanted him in.
As the day of his graduation and leaving College drew nearer the thought was never far from his mind.
Of course, being a committed Christian he prayed about it – and then the direction came!
Walking down the local high street he became convinced God spoke to him through a shop window display.
Rushing back to the College he threw himself at the College Principal and blurted out, “The Lord has shown me he wants me to go as a missionary to Brazil!”
“Oh yes!” said the Principal slowly and sceptically, “How can you now be so sure?”
“Well” explained the student with great confidence, “the local sweet shop in the High Street currently has a fantastic display in the window of Brazil nuts”.
“I see” replied the wiser and more experienced tutor, “and what if the window had been full of Mars bars?”
